It has been a while since I’ve been trying to understand how I can make an impact and change the perception of persons inside the Church towards persons with disabilities in order to create more inclusive communities. So far, I have poured my time and energy into writing academic articles and doing research.
Now, I would like to try something different and engage directly with those who want to make a difference in their communities, from priests/ministers to anyone actively involved in the life of the community. In this sense, I have put together a 4-day awareness training in disability grounded in the Christian tradition and the most up-to-date research in the field of disability.
The aim is to raise awareness of disability in a Christian context, present biblical, patristic, and sociological approaches to disability, and help communities develop the best strategies for inclusion. In this sense, the training will discuss some of the following topics: the notion of disability and the different types of disabilities, disability and the body of Christ, biblical and patristic perspectives on disability, friendship, autism, dementia, and the aesthetic shock provoked by persons with atypical bodies.
I devised this programme as an online 4-day course, including a series of lectures and workshops. It can be provided in English, French, or Romanian upon request.
The first training will take place online from the 4th to the 7th of November 2024.
